English 9 Honors is the first step in preparation for the English SOL Test, administered in eleventh grade, as well as for the Advanced Placement Literature course, offered in twelfth grade. As such, we will be developing literary analysis and composition skills. We will spend the year reading, discussing, and responding to a wide variety of literature. In addition, we will spend time fine-tuning grammar skills and practicing essay writing.

The course will be more intense than previous English courses. We will be reading more, digging deeper, and analyzing more thoroughly. We need to be prepared for the challenges, as well as the rewards, the course will offer us.
